Top Loader vs. Front Loader
Before you buy a new washing machine, you need to know what kind of washer is suitable for you. Most of the time, washing machines are grouped based on their loader type – top loading and front loading machines.
Regular top loading washers are generally less expensive and use less water and electricity as compared to other high-efficiency models. Their tubs are filled with water and an agitator swirls the laundry. They are, however, rate poorly among other types of washers as they have low loading capacity, are relatively noisy and the loads can become unbalanced.
Despite their flaws, there are people who prefer top loading washing machines. Lately, washing machine manufacturers have come up with top loaders that are more efficient as required by the Department of Energy. Although they are slightly more expensive than the regular top loader, these energy-efficient top loaders do perform much better in terms of their washing ability and loading capacity. The only flaw for these newer models would be that laundry may get tangled and wrinkled more because of their high speed spin ability.
Front loading washing machines earns more favorable recommendations because of their high efficiency and much better washing ability. They also get brownie points because you can stack a dryer on top of them, which means less space is required. Front loaders are also better at extracting water because of their faster spins. The only bad thing about it is that it costs more to buy and maintain. They are also only good if you’re young and don’t have back problems – you need to bend low when you’re loading the washing machine.

Here are some features that you may want to consider before making a purchase:
Buy the biggest washing machine that your budget would allow
A 24-inch compact washing machine is great if you’re a couple living together. However, if your budget allows it, get a washer that is bigger. A bigger washer would mean more loading capacity (if you want to wash your bedding over the weekend) and less usage of water and electricity.
Get excited over colors
Washing machines these days boast a wide array of colors. So do look for something that have a great color or texture if you want to add some interior quality for your laundry room. Do note however, if you opt for these colors and textures, they may charge you more than a unit that is in plain white.
Benefit from extra cycles and high spin speed
If you have allergy issues, get a model that have the extra cycle so that it would get the detergent residue off better. Higher spin speed is good because it cuts down the drying time of your laundry.
Look out for washing machines with automatic temperature controls as it adjusts the water temperature according to the cycle’s mode that you are using. It’s convenient as you don’t have to guess what is the correct temperature for the cycle or fabric you are washing.
Have steam for better cleaning
Fabrics are cleaned better and sanitized with this feature. Models that have the steam feature performs generally much better than non-steam ones. Of course, they do come with a fancier price tag due to the ability.
Warranties are not usually good deals
Warranties can be overrated, as said by some experts; they are expensive and usually unused. Only get a warranty if you feel like you need one (read reviews from other owners in regards of reliability) and it is inexpensive together with your washing machine.
